Lock Bumping

Lock bumping can let criminals into your home with no sign of forced entry. Protect your family and possessions with bump resistant locks or cylinders, electronic access, or both.

What is Lock Bumping?
Wikipedia: “Lock bumping is a lock picking technique for opening a pin tumbler lock using a specially created bump key. One bump key will work for all locks of the same type.”

How Bump Keys work:
Criminal alters keys with specific cuts to allow “Pin Bouncing”. The lock releases when the key is physically bumped in the lock.  This allows the door to be opened with no physical sign of tampering.

The internet is full of sites selling bump keys to ANYONE! This is a serious problem in the wrong hands. In fact, some insurance companies will deny claims because there may be no proof of forced entry.

You can protect your home and possessions by replacing your locks with high security locks. “Bump resistant” and “Pick resistant” locks are available. A different option is to have your lock’s cylinder replaced with one that is bump resistant.

To eliminate the danger of lock bumping, consider replacing your locks with keyless locks, biometric or electronic locks.
